Grade 5 English Class
Yesterday, 11/21, Ms. Helen was able to set up an English class for the Grade 5 students. Justin, Stevenon, and Ms. Frank lead them in two English songs: The Alphabet Song and Old MacDonald. Students reviewed the alphabet and learned certain words that went with that specific letter. Students then were able to learn the English words that go with a specific animal. For example, the pig goes "oink oink", the dog goes "ruff ruff".
Then students asked us MANY questions. We had no problem sharing about ourselves and we learned a little about each student.
The students were EXTREMELY excited to see Maryknoll. The biggest hit is our Media Center!!! We will be visiting the Grade 6 students on Tuesday, November 26. Below are some pictures and videos of the students.

Grade 6 English Class
On Tuesday, November 26, we visited the Primary School to teach English to the Grade 6 students. To our excitement, the students were well prepared and were engaged with the lessons. Ms Frank first led them in a TRIBES activity, Four Corners. Students got into corners based upon what the student liked. In each corner was one of our team members ready to introduce themselves and have a short English conversation.
After the TRIBES activity, the students gathered to watch a video about Maryknoll. Again the highlight of the video is our Media Center. Students then learned "itsy wincy spider" with the hand motions being taught by Justin and Stevenson.
To end the class, the students were split into two teams. The game . . . charades. With the large group, I was a little reserved with regard to how much all the students would be involved. But to our surprise, the students had a strong English vocabulary and were able to understand the English word they had to act out. The teams were also well versed with English vocabulary, so the game was an overall success. Below are some pictures and videos.
